Walter William Booth Obituary

Passed away peacefully on Sunday November 10, 2024 at the age of 100 years.  Loved and missed by his wife of 78 years; Rosetta (nee Lewis); dear father of Brian Booth, Jacqueline Booth (Nick).  Grandfather/Oollie to Sarah-Jane Finlay & Heather Campbell. Great Oollie to Finley Valdstyn.

Wally was born in London, England. He was employed by Boosey & Hawkes as a Brass Instrument Maker and when he was 28 years old he accepted a transfer to Canada to work at Boosey & Hawkes Canadian location. His reputation grew and he travelled regularly to teach the craft of musical instrument making and repairs.  He particularly enjoyed visiting schools and giving clinics to students on caring for their instruments.  He made and repaired instruments for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and The Salvation Army Bands. Many individual band members and musicians were grateful to him for his excellent workmanship and skill. Wally retired after 40 years at Boosey & Hawkes.  He continued to repair brass instruments into his 80's.  Wally & Rose built their own rural home just outside of Claremont in 1964, where he was able to pursue his interests in organic gardening, Homeopathy, photography and of course travelling with Rosetta.  Wally had an enormous collection of tools, many of which he made himself.  Neighbors and friends knew to go to Wally for that obscure tool they needed to do a job and if he didn't have it he would figure out a way to help them.  Wally maintained his good health well into his mid 90's when he had a massive heart attack.

His health declined and he lived his last four years at the Woodhaven in Markham.  Our family is so appreciative for the kind and loving care Wally was given by all the staff on the Markham floor.

Cremation has been entrusted to Low & Low Funeral Home, Uxbridge. A celebration of Wally's life will be held at a later date. Friends may send condolences to at www.lowandlow.ca
