Valerie Freda (Hughdie) Fowle Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of our adored and beloved Valerie. She will be forever missed by her loving husband Tom. Cherished by her children Michael (Bonnie-deceased), Richard (Susan) and Julia. Loving grandma to Kyle (Miranda), Sean (Lydia), Jennifer (Jim), Lisa (Marvin), Aidan and Shannon. Great grandma to Eliot, Alexander, George, Jamison, Joseph and Rose. Valerie will lovingly be remembered by her brother David, sister-in-law Margaret and nephews Kevin, Barry and niece Kirsty, as well as family and friends in England and Ireland.
Born February 14, 1940 in Sligo, Republic of Ireland, Valerie spent much of her childhood in and around Dun Laoghaire. After attending schools in England and Ireland, she worked for Barclays Bank. She and Tom met at a rugby club dance in Ashford, Kent and married September 6, 1966. In the late sixties, Tom and Valerie decided to move to Canada and eventually settled in West Hill, Scarborough where they raised their three children. Valerie was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She loved to spend time with family and friends, reading, playing bridge, working on the Globe and Mail’s cryptic crossword and, in her younger years, playing tennis at the local club in Scarborough. Tom and Valerie retired to Uxbridge in 2001, a town they came to know and love, and where they stopped for a meal or a coffee on their way to their cottage on Gull Lake. Valerie loved their house and garden in Quaker Village and liked taking walks in the neighbourhood. As a child, Valerie enjoyed reading Anne of Green Gables and, as a result, became involved in the Lucy Maud Montgomery Society, where she helped organise and host charitable events. She and Tom also had many travel adventures together exploring countries in South America, Asia and Europe.
Thank you to Stacey, Maddy, Nicole, Molly and other staff at Douglas Crossing who helped care for Valerie this past year. Your compassion, patience and understanding made a difference and are truly appreciated.
A private family service will be held on Saturday, March 15th, 2025. A celebration of life for Valerie will be announced at a later date. If you wish to make an expression of sympathy, donations to either the Uxbridge Hospital Foundation or Parkinson Canada would be appreciated by the family.
May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand. - An Irish Blessing
