The Honourable John Howard Jenkins QC

After a life full of love, laughter and practical jokes, Jack passed away on September 4, 2021.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Edythe, children John Jenkins, Carole Jenkins, and Libby Norris (Robert), and grandchildren Mitchell, Sydney, Alexander, Jake, Ryan, Jordan, and Christopher.  He is also survived by his older cherished sister Eileen Hall (John) and youngest brother Gordon Jenkins and predeceased by siblings Audrey McHoul and Donald Jenkins.

Jack was born in Galt (Cambridge), to Howard and Mable Jenkins.  He was an accomplished athlete, excelling particularly at curling and football at Galt Collegiate Institute.  He attended Western University and played for the renowned Mustang football team.  He graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1959 and had a thriving legal practice at Simmers Edwards Jenkins in Cambridge.  He was an outstanding trial lawyer and championed community causes through The Rotary Club.  Jack was appointed as a judge of the District Court in 1987 and continued as a trial judge at the Superior Court of Justice until retiring in 2008.

Although the law kept him busy, Jack never missed a family dinner, band concert or school play.  He was a devoted son and had breakfast with his parents almost every morning until they moved from their West River Road family home.  Jack was a consummate athlete.  He awarded himself trophies for tennis, golf, and curling victories. He cheated at every annual family swim race. He loved a good game of cards or backgammon.  Jack may be most remembered for the fun (and occasional trouble) generated by his frequent and elaborate practical jokes.

Jack cultivated meaningful, long-lasting friendships, a testament to his loyal, generous, and fun-loving spirit.
