Teresa Mary (Camilleri) Schaper McVicar

August 11, 1929 ~ September 5, 2023 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Obituary

It’s with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother- Teresa Mary Schaper (nee Camilleri).  Watched over by all those who loved her.

Wonderful mother to Jim & Rob (Chandra). Loving Grandmother to Chris (Jessica), Brad, Ciara (Allister) & Kohl, Great Grandmother to Kayce.  Loving wife to the late Karl Schaper & Alex McVicar.

Teresa, or Terry to those who knew her, grew up in a busy home on the Danforth with her 7 siblings. Teresa’s father had immigrated to Canada from Malta, and opened a small storefront business while raising their family in the overhead apartment.

Terry met her husband, Alex, at a dance and not after too long did they have a home and boys of their own after settling in Stouffville on Baker Street. An avid crafter of delicious lemon meringue pies, Terry was famous for her “tear your face off tarte” filling - a passion taken on by her son, Rob, who has proudly followed in her footsteps and mastered her recipe.

In addition to her love of baking, Terry also loved to celebrate any and all occasions - even more so if it involved sending greetings cards. Her cards were a source of delight to any who received them - often depicting a cat and more often than not, singing loudly for the recipient, which would throw her into fits of laughter. Our family favorite was a cat who on the inside of the card waved his paws and meowed the happy birthday song.

Terry was a fixture of our family gatherings, always present for birthdays, Christmas, graduations, piano recitals or family BBQs. She would be dressed in her best, no matter the event or location, adorned with her many rings and brooches that accompanied her matching outfits.

Later in life, Terry caught the travel bug, and along with her late husband, Karl, traveled by car, boat and plane to destinations near and far to see friends and see new sights. Terry’s zest for life will live on in our hearts; and whenever we hear a small plane overhead, we will think of the many hours she spent soaring through the skies in search of the next adventure.

With love, we will say as Mom always said to us:  Don’t say good-bye, say so long.

XOXOXOX
