Mom was born in Bollingawier in Fryslan to Hendrik & Pietje Dykstra. Immigrating with her parents, sister Grace, Alice, brothers Clarence , John to Canada in 1953. Mom met dad on a tobacco farm in Drumbo , Ontario. After dating a number of years , she then married Dad on September 26, 1958. Starting their family, Mom loved being a mom; cooking, cleaning, baking, sewing, & knitting. She was always smiling even though she was so busy on the farm raising a growing family.
As children grew and started getting married, she was ecstatic when Grandchildren started to arrive. She was known as the Baby whisperer, baby burper, always there with open arms and a warming inviting lap. Hugs and kisses plenty. She had so much love and pride in her family . When the great grandchildren started to arrive year after year, it never slowed her down.
Mom came every year to our August Smit camping weekends as well as our many family functions and Smit Christmas gatherings.
