Rita Genevieve Poole

June 8, 1966 ~ January 22, 2022 (age 55) 55 Years Old

Obituary

Our precious one-of-a-kind Rita passed away peacefully at Port Perry Lakeridge Hospital in her 55th year with family by her side. She is predeceased by her mother Genevieve Poole (Murphy) and Lawrence Gower Poole. May she reunite with those before her and have a big piece of chocolate cake that her sister Karen can’t stop her from having!

She was adored by her siblings Larry (late Susan), Janet (Chuck), Joan (John), Donald (Judie) and her best friend and sister Karen (Stephen).  Loved as Aunt Rita by Tasha (Ahren), Ashli (Patrick), Joshua (Katlin), John, Michelle (Matthew), Lance (Shannon), Sean, Kyle (Julia) and Shevaun, and her many great nieces/nephews who will learn about their great aunt through stories.

Rita will be missed by her roommates, friends and staff who were her extended family at Community Living Durham North for 20 plus years! Thank you for your unwavering support, commitment, humour, and excellent care. We grieve and celebrate Rita together.

If you met Rita, you’d likely remember her sense of humour! Perhaps your keys were missing, you were locked out of the house, or you discovered a doll in a seat belt in your car. Whatever the crime, her laugh and infectious smile would win you over.  She was joyous, humorous, and loved people – each of us enjoyed our own unique and special relationship with one caveat, we all had to know her birthdate.

Her interests were varied – she was musically inclined, had a strong sense of rhythm and loved to ‘drum’. She was confident, felt beautiful and took pride in her Cindi Lauper fashion sense. She had a collection of shoes, purses, wallets and was always adorned with rings on her fingers. Her latest interest was her bracelets – jingle jangle –she would need no less than 3 bracelets at one time. She wanted a red motorcycle and eventually compromised for an adult 3-wheel bike. She loved the cottage and a shout out to Stephen’s family for appreciating her as much as she enjoyed the smores.

Thank you to the staff at Port Perry Lakeridge Hospital, having a local hospital with expertise made a world of difference to Rita and to all of us who loved her. Heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Hyshka, Dr. La Delfa, Dr. M. Brown and the visiting nurses Vera and Natasha from Paramed.
