Passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026, at Margaret Bahen Hospice in Newmarket, Ontario, at the age of 67. A longtime resident of Scarborough, Ontario, Doug was born and raised in Guelph.
It was in Guelph where he met the love of his life, Alison Mary Elizabeth Jamieson. Together, they built a life rooted in family. First in Sarnia, Ontario, and then in Scarborough from 1988 onward. Alison passed away in 2017, and Doug carried her memory with him always.
In his later years, Doug shared his life with his partner, Jackie Soehner. Her companionship and support meant a great deal to him, especially during his health challenges.
Doug was a graduate of the University of Waterloo in Chemical Engineering and worked most of his career in the insulation industry, including with Fiberglass Canada, Owens Corning, and Rockwool, from which he retired in 2018. Known for his intelligence and problem-solving ability, he could build or repair just about anything. He had a lifelong passion for cars and games, and in later years, found great enjoyment playing poker, competing in tournaments across North America, including the World Poker Tour.
He is survived by his children: Richard Thomas Eichler; Evan James Eichler (Lily Chen) and their children Alison and Logan; and Alicia Elizabeth Eichler (Stephan Moses) and their children Aidyn and Caelus. He is also survived by his partner, Jackie Soehner, and his siblings, Kathleen Noble (Douglas) and Edward Eichler (Dawna).
A celebration of life will be held in the Guelph area at Brombal Funeral Home, 1 Delhi Street, Guelph on August 15, 2026 from 1p.m. to 4p.m. . As expressions of sympathy, donations to Margaret Bahen Hospice, Newmarket or your local Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
Doug will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
