Penny McKeown Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Penny Lynn McKeown (nee Meddings), on August 24th, 2024, at Southlake Regional Health Centre.

Born on September 27, 1945, in Toronto, Penny led a life filled with love and creativity. She was a loving partner of 35 years to Raymond Prachun, sharing many motorcycle and camping adventures, a love of photography, and working alongside each other on numerous home projects.

Penny was a devoted mother to Christopher McKeown, Erin Jarvis (Lee), and the late Mark McKeown (Wanda). Her role as a “Grammy” to her grandchildren Hunter (Coby Gardner), Mathison, Kyle, Daniel and Isabel brought her immense happiness. Her most recent role of “Great Grammy” to her Cami-Girl, Campbell Lynn, filled her heart with joy.

Penny is also survived by her brother Eric (Debra) and nephew Tyler. Penny is predeceased by her mother and father, Frances and Stanley Meddings.

An artist at heart, Penny expressed her creativity through a variety of mediums. A talented potter, sculptor, painter, photographer, sewer, knitter, and creator of one-of-a-kind dolls; Penny’s talents were endless. She was a proud member of the Mount Albert Artists Group.

Her work often reflected her deep love of nature, in which she found great beauty and serenity. Penny also found immense joy in her annual camping trips, most notably at her favourite park, Killbear, which she thought of as “home”.

Her home was always lively with the tap-dancing toes of her dogs. She will be dearly missed by her pride and joy, Teddy Bear, and his sister Ellie Belle. Her love for her dogs brought her great happiness, and they were always by her side.

A private family memorial service to celebrate Penny’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the SPCA, reflecting the causes that were dear to Penny’s heart.

She will forever be in our hearts.
