Michelle (Burleigh) Swartout

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Michelle Anne Swartout, the only daughter of Ab and Muriel Burleigh. After a courageous battle with cancer for 3 and a half years, Michelle passed away peacefully on May 2, 2023. She is now free from pain and has gone to be with her Lord and Saviour. Michelle is the beloved wife of Harry Swartout for 37 years. Much loved cousin of Sharon Campbell, Suzanne (Neil) Brown, Kelli Campbell, Brian (Birgit) Campbell, Todd (Diane), Jason (Bryanne), Sheri (Henry), Bob (Shannon), Sarah (Dan), Hayley (Erin), Jordan (Cory), Mark, Bronwyn, Cheryl (Brady), Jody (Curtis), Jessica, Matthew (Amanda), Allison (James), Leah, Megan, Emily, and Nathan. Michelle is predeceased by her cousin Brett Campbell. She will also be dearly missed by her sister-in-law Peggy Swartout, nieces Tammy (Chris) and Sherry (Tracy), and all of her extended family and friends. Michelle’s never-failing faith in the Lord, infectious laugh, and love for others will always be remembered.  

The family wishes to thank the cancer care nurses at the Peterborough Hospital and the nurses and staff at Ross Memorial Hospital for their compassion and care for Michelle. Also, special mention to Donna May as she was a blessing to Michelle and our family. Donna’s interpreting skills, kindness, and overall love for Michelle were apparent in every conversation and appointment. Funeral Service for Michelle will be held at the Little Britain Community Baptist Church, 489 Eldon Road, Little Britain on Thursday, May 11th, 2023, at 11 a.m. Michelle will be laid to rest at Groveside Cemetery at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Bob Rumball Canadian Centre of Excellence for the Deaf at www.bobrumball.org
