Private Family Only Interment at Bethel Cemetary, Greenbank.
Passed away peacefully with family by her side, on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at the Oak Ridges Hospice Port Perry in her 86th year. Mary Jean (nee Dobson), was the dearly loved wife of Glen Till (Deceased), of Greenbank. Loving Mother of Janice (Brian Lee), Terry (Julie), Brian "Sid" (Gail) and Trevor (Allison). Very proud Grandmother of Katelyn (Chris), Russell (Jess), Tyson (Sarah); Carlie (Taylor), Travis, Shelby (Ryan); Cody (Courtney), Courtney; Ashley (Jake), Brandon and Emma. Treasured Great-Grandmother of Samuel, Jacob and Patrick Lee; and Chloe Pellow. Predeceased by both Sister Barbara (Dobson) and her husband Wilmot Phair. Sister of Hugh Dobson and his wife Mary. Predeceased by both Sister-In-Law Mary (Till) and her husband Ross Real. "Aunt Jean" will also be lovingly remembered by her 2 generations of nieces and nephews. (Dear Daughter of Fred and Aileen Dobson and Daughter-In-Law of Ernest and Ruth Till.) We are beyond grateful for Mom/Grandma/Great Grandma surviving cancer 22 years ago. She has shown amazing strength and peaceful acceptance knowing she would not get ahead of this fast-moving recurrence.
Mary Jean lived within 5 miles of Greenbank her entire life being born on the Dobson generational family farm in the Bethesda Community at 855 Scugog Line 9 then moving straight north to 855 Cragg Rd when she married Glen Till in 1958. Retirement brought her last move to the heart of Greenbank when they built on Glen's parent's property. Mary Jean had a life-long positive attitude and enthusiastic spirit becoming involved in so many activities and groups over the years. She participated in high school team sports, enjoyed several years in a competitive Ladies Bowling League and, as a dedicated fan, enthusiastically supported the team sports of her husband, children and grandchildren along with all their team players. Mary Jean taught school 4 years before having a family. She helped out on the farm where needed. When her children were older, she returned to Supply Teaching in the Reach Durham School Boards for 25 years and looked forward to visits at the Annual Retired Teachers Luncheons. Her love for children also shone through when she helped raise her grandchildren, taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and helped with the Children's Church Choir. Church has always been at the center of her life where she was active in many groups, namely enjoying the fellowship of UCW and singing in the choir. Mary Jean loved music and was humble about her gift of playing piano by ear and being blessed with a lovely singing voice. You may remember her canvassing at your door for Cancer or her involvement with the Heart and Stroke Society. It was another opportunity to stay in touch with neighbours and welcome new folks to the community. Mary Jean took pride, and often received compliments, for writing the Greenbank News as Correspondent for the Scugog Standard Newspaper for 15 years. Mary Jean found Joy and Peace in her gardening. To quote an entry in her journal, "The support of a great family, friends, church and community has enriched my life."
