Marlene Gladys Lajoie Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marlene Gladys Lajoie (Layton) in her 86th year at Oshawa General Hospital on Monday April 20th, 2026.

Born in Orono and raised in Oshawa, she was fondly known as MeMaw by her friends in her community of Greenbank. She was a quiet lady and led her lifestyle as such. Marlene loved puttering in her gardens, living life in the sun on her back deck watching the birds at the feeders with her dog faithfully at her side, being told to MA! GET IN THE CAR! we have to see the shooting stars or the Northern Lights, and driving the backroads with her daughter and the dog.

Marlene was a former cook at St. John’s Training School for Boys in Uxbridge. She was affiliated with the Oshawa Horsemen’s Association and Uxbridge Blackhawks Old Timers Hockey.

She is predeceased by the love of her life John Lajoie (at 52 years old), her brothers Jack, Doug, and Carl (Sam). Marlene is survived by her daughter Shelly, her adoring Grandson, Remington (who misses his GMa), her siblings, Doreen and Wayne, and her nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Low & Low Funeral Home in Port Perry. At Marlene’s request, there will be no service. While she was in Port Perry Hospital, she enjoyed watching the birds outside her window. Donations may be made in Marlene’s honour to the Bird Feed Fund for Port Perry Hospital by visiting Port Perry Feeds or calling them directly at 905-985-7363.
