Lynda Davis Obituary

In loving memory of Lynda Irene Davis (née Puckrin), whose earthly melody came to a peaceful rest in the early morning hours of April 20, 2024, with her two daughters, son, and sister by her side.  Her kindness, gentle spirit, wonderful sense of humour, and unwavering love will continue to echo in the hearts of those who were blessed to share in her song.

Born in 1950 and lovingly raised on a farm in Audley, Ontario, Lynda took to the piano at an early age, having inherited her wonderful talent for music from her father, Fred.  She would nurture that talent and see it bloom as a recurring motif through the ever-changing rhythms of life, never losing sense of the melody, continuing to play each note with a light, inspired touch.

Lynda had the honour of providing the soundtrack to the most significant life moments and ceremonies of so many, as she was asked to play at countless weddings, celebrations and funerals over the years.  She was the cherished organist, pianist and choir director for numerous church congregations, and she would instil her love of music even further as the beloved "favourite music teacher” to hundreds of students in Oshawa and Port Perry, where her gentle, loving legacy will continue to reverberate for generations to come.

Music also led Lynda to the great romantic love of her life, whom she met while performing and demonstrating keyboards at the Oshawa Fall Fair.  Earl Davis was running an adjacent booth promoting a freshly squeezed juice delivery service, and took an immediate fancy to the charming, talented musician with the stylish beehive hair.  He encouraged her to enter a raffle for a free year of juice delivery.  Although there were no witnesses to declare it a fair contest, Lynda’s ballot was soon drawn as the winner.  Later, amidst rampant speculation that this contest was rigged, Earl began his regular deliveries to the farm, somehow always coinciding with Lynda being home.  Before long they attended another fair together, on a date.  Cue the carnival music, and a romantic ride on a Ferris Wheel, which remarkably stopped with Lynda and Earl at the peak. Earl then handed Lynda a box of Cracker Jack which contained a rather astounding prize - a diamond engagement ring. This was the opening interlude to a great love story that could best be described as a Romantic Musical Comedy, with equal parts humour and harmony.

Lynda was also a prolific greeting card and letter writer.  Many a kind and encouraging word flowed from her pen, and she is not believed to have ever missed a single opportunity to send a thoughtful, grateful “Thank-You” note, for even the smallest gift or act.

Lynda was the daughter of Fred and Mildred Puckrin (deceased). Sister to Keith Puckrin (Diane), Roy Puckrin (Marilyn), Nancy Rogerson (deceased) and Dianne Hooker (Gord). Mom to Preston Davis (deceased), Lynda Davis, Kristal Davis (Rob Winger) and Darrin Davis (Amy Jefferies).  “Grandma” to Melissa Turner (Jon), Juliana Renton (Adam), and Nick Fenwick.  “Nana” to Davis Winger and Sadie Davis.  Great Grandma to Wyatt Renton.

The family would like to acknowledge Lynda’s dear friends Beth, Eunice, Gay, Lori and Wanda for their incredibly generous support of Lynda, particularly over the last 10 months, which has gone far beyond the call of friendship.
