Lois Elford Obituary

Peacefully on September 13, 2024 at Port Perry, ON at the age of 96. Wife of the late Harry Gordon Elford (d. May 1, 2011). Loved by her children Gordon (Charmaine) of Uxbridge, ON, Keith (Donna) of Mission, B.C., Grant (Holley) of Abbotsford, B.C., Beth Mitchell of Shepody, N.B. and Neil (Beth) of Calgary, A.B.,. She is missed by 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters Marie Wilson and Grace Evans and her husband Floyd Evans.

She was predeceased by her parents Mildred (nee Hockley) and Wilfred Simpson, her brother John and his wife Dorothy Simpson, her brother-in-law Earl and her long-time foster children, Karen and Kevin Higgins.

She grew up attending Pine Grove school and church. Then after her marriage to Harry, she moved to the Elford farm on Davis Drive. In 1994 Harry and Lois moved to their home in Uxbridge. Loving and caring for her family was the focus of her life. Gardening, preserving, ensuring that her kids got to church activities at the Free Methodist Church and to music lessons and band practice were things that she did cheerfully. Her love for children extended beyond her own family to foster children who were welcomed into her home, and to others through the years that looked to her for a quiet steadying hand.

Over the years, her busy hands produced many quilts and afghans for the Cottage Hospital Auxiliary and for mission organizations. She and Harry enjoyed gardening, competing at the Uxbridge fall fair with their flowers and other entries. But the biggest joy of her life was family times with lots of food on the table and lots of laughter and teasing filling the room. Lois was a strong, gracious person. She was an authentic follower of Jesus. She will be missed by many.

Special thanks to Drs. Chau and Wong for their compassionate care and the staff at Uxbridge Cottage Hospital and Oak Ridges Hospice for their outstanding care and support.
