Linda Jahnke Obituary

Passed away peacefully at Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket on Monday June 17, 2024 at the age of 73 years.  Loved and missed by her husband Donald and her son Alan (Karen).  Also remembered by her brother-in-law Dale (Pat) , her grandson Cameron and her sisters and brothers  Gail , Glenda, Arnold and Peter and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Ivan and Joe.

Linda was born in Hearst Ontario to Orville and Marg Burtch. The family moved to Timmins Ontario in 1965 where Linda went to school at École secondaire catholique Thériault. She pursued her passion to be a nurse by attending Timmins School of Nursing graduating in 1973. She worked in Timmins Hospital then moved to Fraserdale Ontario to work as a community nurse in the hydro colony. She was very proud of her nursing career and she enjoyed her life in Fraserdale doing many sports activities.

In Fraserdale; She enjoyed bicycling around town which was the only way to escape the black flies in summer. She enjoyed swimming , canoeing and sailing in the summer. In the winter she enjoyed cross-country skiing and curling.

She married her husband Don in 1971 who had moved to Timmins from Saskatchewan and was working as a surveyer , then Teaching master at Northern College and then Ontario Hydro P&C engineer in Fraserdale.

She moved down to Newmarket , Ontario in 1977 where she worked as an oral surgeon nurse.  She took up square dancing and really enjoyed the activity and the beautiful dresses.

Her son Alan was born in in 1980. She then dedicated her life to raise him. She held many happy birthday parties and took him on many trips  to Parry Sound cabin with his friends for fishing and swimming. She loved animals and purchased hamsters , guinea pigs , cats, budgies and dogs. She encouraged Alan to develop his musical talents and always loved when he played guitar for her.

She always enjoyed painting , crocheting lovely afghan blankets, knitting and rug-hooking.

She was overjoyed when her grandson Cameron was born in 2008. She played many hours of hockey with him on living room floor.

Linda and her husband took several trips across western Canada and to Hawaii which she enjoyed very much. She loved her garden flowers and backyard birds and animals. She loved nature.

For several years she has obtained support from the SouthLake PACTT Team. We are so grateful. She looked forward to all visits.

She had very simple desires through her life and did not ask for much. She was always cheerful even though she had walking and sight issues in last few years. She was so appreciative of all acts of kindness and was loved by those that knew her.

The celebration of life will be a graveside ceremony at Uxbridge Cemetery, Son Alan and Grandson Cameron will act as Pallbearers.

A private family ceremony was entrusted to Low & Low Funeral Home, Uxbridge.   As expressions of sympathy, donations to Diabetes Canada would be appreciated by Linda’s family.  Friends may send condolences or make donations visiting www.lowandlow.ca
