It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and person. Lieuwkje “Lukie” passed away at Markham Stouffville Hospital after a devastating stroke on October 17, 2025 at the age of 82. She is now with her Lord and Saviour.
Lukie is survived by her husband of 53 years Art, her son Stephen, and daughter Karen and husband Keith. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Jack, Johanne, and James. Lukie was predeceased by her parents Gosse and Theodora Feddema. She was also predeceased by siblings Pieter, Ann, Alma, Ernest, Bob, Louise, Edna, Peter, Tom, Charlie and Margaret.
Lukie was born in Bornwird in the province of Friesland in the Netherlands on February 16, 1944. The family immigrated to Canada in 1947 and landed in Blenheim, Ontario. They moved to Parkhill and eventually settled in Kerwood, Ontario. Lukie had 14 brothers and sisters.
She married her husband Art de Waard on September 9 ,1972 and moved to Markham where they had a son and daughter. She was an active member of the Willowdale Christian Reformed Church for many years. After moving to Goodwood, Lukie became a member of Goodwood United Church, where she felt at home. The Church was an important part of Lukie’s life.
Lukie was a dear wife, a caring mother, and loyal friend. She will be dearly missed by everyone who had the privilege to be a part of her life. Knowing she is at her Father’s House will make this an easier journey.
Lukie was a talented lady who enjoyed artwork and was a great seamstress. Her grandchildren loved the amazing Halloween costumes she created for them.
She loved and was so proud of her grandchildren Jack, Jo, and James. She was a big part of their lives. Lukie loved family dinners with her grandchildren, her family, and close friends. Her grandchildren especially loved her flank steaks, almond cookies, and baking.
Lukie is survived by her sisters Tina Schalk, Jean Rozell, her brother John (Jenny) Feddema, and by her Sisters-in-Law Yjtta Feddema, Henney Feddema, Gerry Feddema, Rose Feddema, Ellen Feddema, and Pat Feddema, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service to honour Lukie will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 1:00pm at the Goodwood United Church, 3999 Concession Road 3 in Goodwood, Ontario. A reception for family and friends will follow at the Goodwood Community Centre, 268 Durham Regional Hwy 47, also in Goodwood. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
