Len Nicholl Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Leonard Robert Nicholl, aged 87, on Thursday, October 10th, 2024, after a short battle with lung cancer. Len was born in Ballyrobert, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, and immigrated to Canada at the age of 15. He began his career with the Toronto District School Board and joined the Naval Reserves while living in Toronto. Later, he moved to Uxbridge, where he worked for Durham Region as a water/wastewater operator. Upon retirement, he and Sandra moved to Beaverton, where Len mastered the craft of winemaking, happily sharing his creations with friends.

Len is survived and deeply missed by his wife, Sandra; his children, Blair, Craig, and Robyn (Joe) Fera; and his five grandchildren, Damon Nicholl, Shayln (Matt) Nicholl, Joey Fera, Matthew Fera, and Antonio Fera. He will also be missed by his sisters, Maureen (Norman) and Elizabeth (Bob), Sandra’s siblings and their spouses, his many nieces and nephews, and Peggyanne Nicholl. His faithful companion and protector, Ryu, is lost without him.

Known for his community-minded spirit, Len was always eager to help with fundraising efforts for local causes. He became involved with the Uxbridge Legion as soon as he moved to town, holding a position on the executive for many years, and serving as president multiple times. Len cherished his 25 years as the Drum Major of the Uxbridge Legion Pipe Band. He also enjoyed his time as president of the Uxbridge Blackhawks Oldtimers hockey team, where he formed lifelong friendships.

We invite you to celebrate Len’s life with family and friends at Low and Low Funeral Home in Uxbridge. Visitation will take place on Friday, October 18th, from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm, followed by a Legion service. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, with a reception to follow at the Uxbridge Legion, located at 109 Franklin St.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Cancer Care Centre at Southlake Regional Hospital for their compassionate care of Len.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Beaverton or the Uxbridge Legion Pipe Band.  Memories and words of condolence can be left at www.lowandlow.ca.
