Peacefully at Sunrise of Aurora on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at the age of 92.  Survived, loved and deeply missed by her daughter Sarah (Travis). Reunited now with her cherished husband Don and beloved son Shawn (Terri). 

The youngest of 10 siblings, Joyce grew up in Windsor, ON, and always remembered her roots, frequently and fondly referring to her days at Walkerville Collegiate and her family home on Lincoln Rd.  Educated as a nurse in London, ON, her early years with Don were spent in northern Ontario, practicing as an RN in Huntsville and later in the Sault. This skill was put to good use when she cared for her father after he was bitten by a rabid skunk(!), and later when he had a stroke.  Joyce practiced until Shawn came along, then shifted her energy into being a fabulous Mom – encouraging, pushing and always, always there for her family.  Allowing Sarah to try as many different sports and activities as she fancied (and driving her to said innumerable lessons and activities) gave Sarah the bravery to explore new things and find her passions in life, for which she is grateful to this day.

When they retired to Cobourg, Joyce used her own passion for learning and educating to become an in-school mentor and was named “Mentor of the Year” by the Big Brothers organization in 2004.  Joyce was an active member of the Probus Club and Trinity United Church.  She enjoyed listening to Neil Diamond and reading, lunches in town, her dog Zoe and winning at euchre. Retirement was enhanced via travels with Don, but she had a dreadful sense of direction!  But in particular, she loved when her children came to visit – laughing together in a sunny back yard, sharing a glass of wine, sharing in the mess made by Shawn in the kitchen.

Thank you to the palliative team from Southlake Hospital and especially to the very special staff at Sunrise of Aurora for the loving care, compassion, and support of Joyce during her final days and indeed prior.
