Passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry at the age of 84. Loved and missed by her daughter Caron Weber (Otto) and son Ray Hawkins (Charmaine). Cherished Nanny of Dillan Weber (Jaqueline), Amy Forbes (Mike), Cassidy Weber (Michelle), Mercedes Weber (Kevin), Hayley Hawkins, and Raymond Hawkins, as well her great grandchildren Kaydence, Harlow, Prior, Finley, Alden, Elliot, Alice, and James. Forever remembered by her sisters Marie, Patty, and Dianne.
Joyce was born, raised, and married in England before moving to Canada in 1962, where she sought to create a better life for her children. Settling in Oshawa, she worked as a bartender and waitress, beloved by her customers, and continued to do so until her retirement at the age of 73.
Joyce was a woman of many passions. She loved the sun, the beach, playing games, solving puzzles, skiing, dancing, and cheering on her Maple Leafs. However, her two greatest joys were gardening and spending time with her family. She had a remarkable talent for creating beautiful rock gardens, admired by all for both her strength and artistic vision.
Above all, Joyce’s greatest love was for her family. She never missed a birthday, always sending cards and attending school plays, sporting events, and other milestones. Whether babysitting or driving her grandchildren to or from wherever they needed to be, Joyce was ever-present and deeply involved. While she cherished being a mother, it was her role as “Nanny” that brought her the most pride and joy.
A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at Low & Low Funeral Home, 1763 Reach Street, Port Perry, on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 from 1pm-4pm, with memories being shared at 2pm. As expressions of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Oak Ridges Hospice would be appreciated by the family. Friends may send condolences or make donations at www.lowandlow.ca
