John Edward Fulford
Sept. 29, 1963 – Dec. 26, 2024
John passed away in his 62nd year at Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry, surrounded by family, after a short and courageous battle with cancer.
John was the oldest son of Albert and Elizabeth Fulford. He was born in Port Perry and graduated from Port Perry High School, where he met the love of his life, Carol Lehane. Together, they enjoyed 45 years as a couple, including 37 years married following the infamous ‘thunder-kiss’ wedding.
John was known for his strong will, compassion and sense of humour. He was a successful and exemplary entrepreneur, employee and mentor. His strong work ethic, logical mind and calm leadership made him an asset to every company he started or worked for. His knowledge of the landscaping and snow removal industry made him an invaluable resource that many tapped into. His presence and expertise will be greatly missed by many in the industry.
Survived by his wife Carol (Lehane), sons Micheal and his partner Hilary, and Nicholas. He will be greatly missed by his parents, Albert and Elizabeth Fulford, and in-laws, Mabel and John (deceased) Lehane.
He will be fondly remembered by his brother Brad (Jeanette) and his nephews and niece Jason, Ashley and Justin, and their spouses and families.
Forever loved by sister-in-law Susan and her husband Jim, and his nieces Megan and Allison.
John will be missed by his many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
His passing has created an unfillable void. May all who were blessed to have him in their lives find peace and comfort in their photos and memories.
Carol and family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the medical staff and teams at Lakeridge Health Oshawa CCU and G5, Lakeridge Bowmanville palliative care team, and Oak Ridges Hospice. Their care, guidance and compassion were greatly appreciated over the past three months.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations to Oak Ridges Hospice, Community Care Durham, or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
John’s happy place was at the cottage on Moore Lake. His ability to fix and build anything kept both family cottages standing over the past 30 years. A beautiful red oak will be planted there to honour him.
Visitation will be held at the Low & Low Funeral Home, 1763 Reach Street, Port Perry on Saturday, January 11th from 12:30-1:30pm, with a service to celebrate John’s life to follow at 1:30pm.
To honour John’s avoidance of fancy clothing and anything that required a tie, you are encouraged to dress casually if attending any of the above events.
