Joanna Serbeniuk Obituary

Joan (Jojo, Joanie) Higgins (Serbeniuk) born November 8 1938, in Montreal Qc, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday November 12, 2024 at the age of 86 years.

Joan was the matriarch of the family, and she made no apologies for being a strong and empowered woman. She was intelligent, bold, confident, feisty and engaging. She was also kind, thoughtful, compassionate and generous. Joan left an indelible mark on everyone she met.

Loved and missed by her daughter Cindy Higgins (Peter) and son Danny (late Nancy).  Beloved grandmother of Katie, Ryan, Cameron, Hayden and Hollie (Ryan) and Great grandson Malcolm Rylie.  She leaves behind a brother John (Michelle) niece Alethia and nephew Brandon.  Joanie shared much life, love and laughter with her extended family in Entrelacs and good friends from Windsor to Quebec, she didn’t leave much on the table.

Joan worked at Windsor Raceway for 40 years and also held the title of President of the  SEIU Union local 528.  Joan was an effective negotiator and masterful debater, she was a warrior for the little guy and always ensured their voice was heard.  In her off time you would find her tending to her beloved roses and bountiful gardens.

We love you Jojo.

Cremation has been entrusted to Low & Low Funeral Home, Uxbridge. A private ceremony in Joanna’s memory will be held at a later date.  Memorial donations to Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.  Friends may send condolences to at www.lowandlow.ca
