Wes was married to the love of his life, Emily (2016) for 54 years. They lived in Red Deer, Alberta; Winnipeg, Manitoba; and Uxbridge, Ontario. He was born in Veldhoven, North Brabant, Netherlands to Christianus and Lucia Westelaken. He is pre deceased by his siblings Annie, Arnold, John, Paul, Ed, Lucy (survived by husband Louis), Bernard, Ben (survived by wife Mary) and Maria. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, great and grand nieces and nephews.
He and Em shared their love and affection for all but especially Rachel and Jordan Andrews and their parents.
He emigrated to Canada in 1949 and settled in Blenheim, ON where he farmed with his 3 brothers. In 1953, he joined the RCAF as an aero engine technician. He completed his high school education and earned his BA (Hons.) in History from the University of Winnipeg. After 19 years in the military, he got his BLS from the University of Alberta, became a Librarian at the University of Manitoba, and retired 19 years later as Head of its Science Library. He and Em retired in Uxbridge, ON.
Wes enjoyed reading, roller skating, jogging, racquet sports, swimming, walking, biking, sailing, creating stained glass, computers, crosswords and travel.
He volunteered his time at the food bank, Red Cross volunteer work - donating blood and plasma 196 times, and tutoring and teaching children swimming lessons.
