With saddened hearts, we announce the passing of George William Banich on Wednesday, September 2, 2025. George was a devoted and loving husband to Nicole. He is survived by Nicole; his daughter Cheryl (Carl), his stepson Mark (Virginie) and his sister Gail (Jim). He was a wonderful and much-loved grandfather to Austin, Andre, Oliver, and Penny. George is also remembered fondly by many special cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Alice Banich.
Born on October 3, 1945 in South Porcupine, Ontario, George grew up in Schumacher before the family relocated to North Bay, Mattawa, and eventually Toronto. In every place he lived, George forged lasting friendships, a testament to his warm and welcoming nature.
An excellent all-around athlete, George especially loved golf. As a longtime ClubLink member, he was associated with Cherry Downs and Wyndance Golf Clubs, where he formed many enduring friendships over the years.
A true and loyal sports fan, George had been patiently waiting since 1967 for the Toronto Maple Leafs to win the Stanley Cup.
A service to celebrate George’s life will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025 at the Low & Low Funeral Home, 23 Main Street South, Uxbridge (905-852-3073) at 1p.m. with visitation beginning at 12p.m. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held on the lower level of the funeral home.
