It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doug Grant peacefully at home on July 22, 2024 after a battle with cancer.
Doug will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Dale (nee Fralick) sister-in-law Sandra Boos, Carolyn Galloway (Calgary) brother-in-law Manna Prasad (Calgary) Nieces; Hanna, Mya Prasad (Calgary) Jill Boos / Kim, Haley Fralick / Chris, Jennifer / Tom Holmes and Nephews; Jesse Fralick, Andy, Alan / Robin Grant, and grand nieces and nephews and many friends. Predeceased by Mother (Pearl), Father (Jim) Grant, brothers James, Alan and sister Helen Grant.
Doug was born June 15, 1950 in Glasgow Scotland, He came to Canada by boat on his seventh birthday. Doug was always proud of being Scottish. He’d love to sing with all his Scottish buddies the old songs from home whenever he could.
He often talked about times when he lived in White River, “apparently the coldest spot in Canada”. His father a policeman for some time, he learned to fish and hunt after first taking a helicopter ride to get dropped off in a good spot.
He took up boxing for a while and always loved to watch the fights. In 1983 he went with a good friend to Caesar Palace in Las Vegas to watch the Duran / Hagler fight. He enjoyed it so much and talked about it often.
Doug played hockey for a while in his younger days, but he loved to watch it more. His passion for the Toronto Maple Leafs was evident as most of his clothing where Toronto Maple Leafs, but when you came down to his bar it was even more evident with many impressive pictures and memorabilia.
One of Doug’s long time achievements was his talent to play darts. He played in many leagues where he won many championships and awards. He also played in many tournaments and raise money for the United Way, represented the Oshawa Legion and then the Port Perry Legion where he and his team would bring home the privilege to host the next annual tournament.
A celebration of life will take place at the Port Perry Legion on Sat. Sept. 28th at 2pm.
Doug touched so many people in his life. There will be an open “mic” if anyone would like to say a few words or share some stories and raise a glass to him. If desired memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
