Doris Clarke Obituary

Doris passed peacefully in her sleep on August 13th, 2021 at the grand age of 102 at Lakeview Manor, Beaverton.  Loving wife of the late Edwin Horace George Clarke (1917 – 1983) was predeceased by her 12 siblings.   She was a loving and devoted mother of daughter Heather and son-in-law Glynn.

Doris will be greatly missed by her many family members including Bryan & George Grant, John White, Sarah Benney, Jennifer Bayntun and many other great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, great-great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends here in Canada and England.

Doris was the youngest child born to Clara and William Omar Grant of Hellingly, East Sussex, England.

During WWII Doris served in the Women’s Land Army in East Sussex and was also a member of the Red Cross.

Doris married Eddy in 1954 in London, England.  They lived in Brighton for 3 years before immigrating to Toronto.  A few years later they moved to Brampton with their daughter.   Doris lived there until 2017 when she moved to Uxbridge to be with her daughter and son-in-law.

After her retirement from Food City (Oshawa Group) Doris continued to live a full life, volunteering with numerous organizations including the Perpetual Bazaar, Brampton Fall Fair and Horticultural Clubs to name a few.  In 2017, she received the 30-year Ontario Volunteer Service Award.  She enjoyed travelling.  Some of her trips included Hawaii, Barbados, Europe, Alaska although she especially enjoyed returning to England to visit family and friends.  Doris also spent many summers at their trailer in Bayfort Camp, Midland.  Some of the people she and Eddy met became lifelong friends.  Doris was also passionate about her garden where she loved to spend hours puttering until well into her 90’s.  An inquisitive person by nature she always wanted to be included in whatever activities were going on around her.  Never a person to sit still and certainly would not allow age to influence her life.

A private service to celebrate Doris will be held on Friday August 20th at Low and Low Funeral Home, 23 Main Street South, Box 388, Uxbridge L9P 1M8 (905-852-3073).

For those who wish a memorial Donation may be made in Doris’ name to The Uxbridge Cottage Hospital, Ontario Humane Society, Brampton Horticultural Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
