It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doreen Isabelle Pickett (nee Evans) at Midland Gardens Community, Scarborough on Wednesday December 4, 2024 at the age of 83 years.
Doreen is the wife of the late Thomas Lemuel Pickett. Sadly missed by her children Kim Cicerella (Mike), T. Mervin Pickett and Patty Rogers (Steve). Grandma will always be loved and remembered by her grandchildren Kyle and Natasha Halliday and great grandchildren Paisley and Maverick Halliday. Dear sister of H. Floyd Evans (Grace), Doris Hockley (Allan) and sister-in-law Shirley Evans. Predeceased by siblings; W. Laurence Evans (Olive), J. Ross Evans (Barbara), Mildred Evans and David Evans. Also loved and missed by her numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Our Mom was a faithful servant!! She was a very good cook and baker and loved helping others in need. Every Sunday after Church she would invite new families to town to our home for a beautiful dinner. Mom had a special bond with children. She was a Sunday school teacher for years while we were growing up in Deep River, Ontario. When my parents moved back to Uxbridge, it didn't take her long to take on several families’ children as their Nanny. Mom loved it. Mom had a lot on her plate as we grew up, caring for our Father who was diagnosed with M.S. in 1967 as we children were arriving. We remember Mom trying to carry Dad up the winding staircase at our home until we were approved for the stair lift. That was helpful for all of us (lol).
Our mom was involved with several church and community groups all the while caring for Dad. She worked at Walkers Moving company in Deep River as office manager. But her passion was helping people in need. She helped a homeless woman and her young son to get into an apartment and she prepared meals to help get her grounded. Mom always had a special bond with Kyle and Natasha, and she was over joyed with the great grandchildren, Paisley and Maverick.
As we gathered her belongings this week, Mom's care team at Midland Gardens were all ready to share with us. There wasn't a dry eye. Mom will be missed dearly by the staff. We would like to thank Midland Gardens LTC home for the loving care they gave to Mom.
Mom, you are finally back with Dad! We all love you Mom and we have many, many memories to hold tight. We will miss you and love you always, Kim, Mervin and Patty
Cremation has taken place and a private family graveside ceremony will be held at Uxbridge Cemetery at a later date.
