Christian passed away with peace and courage the evening of March, 28, 2022 in Humber River Hospital with his brother by his side after a more than eight-year battle with three different cancers. He was 49 years old. He was preceded by his grandparents Lily May and Frank John DeCarlo, his parents Robert Walter and Patricia Ann Smith and survived by his brother Michael Robert Smith, who has cared for and lived with him since their mother’s passing in 2016.
Chris was born in Port Perry and grew up in Blackstock and Port Perry, Ontario; and lived in Banff, Vancouver, Oshawa and Toronto over the years. He worked as a Registered Massage Therapist and home renovator for many years until first being stricken with cancer in 2013. He fought cancer with enormous strength, spirit, bravery and dignity until he did not have the strength to fight any more. Even through years of adversity and disability he maintained a meaningful and creative life of which we can all be proud. He is remembered by his older brother Mike, his extended family and friends as a courageous fighter, an empathetic healer, an adventurous storyteller, and a creative and musical spirit. He will be missed always.
Christian will be cremated and a service and Celebration of Life will be held at the Low and Low Funeral Home, 1763 Reach Street, Port Perry (905-985-7331) on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 1p.m., followed by an open house at Mike Smith’s home that evening. Please give any charitable donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.
