Beverley Ann (Patterson) Gibson Obituary

Our Mom, Beverley Ann Gibson (nee Patterson), passed away peacefully at Winbourne Park, in the early evening of December 30, 2024 shortly after her 96th birthday.

Mom was proud of her family and their accomplishments.   She was an amazing, supportive Mom to Dave & Barbara Gibson of Pickering, and Florence & John (2023) Davies of Port Perry.   She was also a wonderful grandmother to Sam and Sarah (Anujan) Davies and to Johanna and Samuel Gibson.

Born on December 11th, 1928, in the City of Toronto to her parents Florence (Harrison) & Gordon Patterson. Mom contracted a serious case of polio at an early age and was able to walk with the use of a brace. At an advanced age, Mom suffered the effects of post-polio syndrome which confined her to an electric wheelchair.     Mom never drove a car but she could drive the wheel chair skillfully.

After graduating high school, Mom worked at Bell Canada as a bookkeeper and developed lifelong friendships with her co-workers during the 1950’s.

Mom was an accomplished, life-long crafter selling her wares at Christmas bazaars in the Scarborough area.     In later years, she started painting with paint-by-numbers and then graduated to painting landscapes for her family and friends to enjoy.  She enjoyed the programs offered at Winbourne Park especially BINGO, winning many prizes.

Bev is predeceased by her parents Florence (Harrison) (1966) & Gordon Patterson (1966) as well as her brother Les Patterson (2022) and sister-in-law Jean Patterson (2020)

Mom led an interesting, fun-filled life. She was proud of her choice to treat everyone fairly and with kindness. Thank you to all residents and employees at Winbourne Park, who treated Mom   with compassion, kindness, and understanding.

“I love you, a bushel and a peck
A bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck
A hug around the neck and a barrel and a heap
A barrel and a heap and I'm talkin' in my sleep”

Written by Frank Loesser and Sung by Doris Day (and performed gleefully by Mom many times)

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to be made to Winbourne Park Long-Term Care Home to bless Nursing Home residents with gifts and activities. Donations will be in care of Dave Gibson and can be e-transferred to davegib@hotmail.ca.

We will miss her dearly.
