It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and wife—she will be dearly missed—always. Barbara Joan Martyn (nee Mann), slipped away on Tuesday October 24. 2023, at age 86 years, with her loving husband, Rick (McAskill), at her side in Seagrave, Ontario.
Barb was born on June 18, 1937, in Peterborough, ON, to Hazel and Art Mann. After completing high school she married and had two sons. While raising her two sons, Barb was ambitious and helped the family by working a long career at Turner and Seymour in Lindsay until her retirement.
Eventually, she met Rick McAskill and together they lived in Seagrave where both Barb and Rick developed wonderful friendships through the Seagrave United Church and community. Barb loved being involved where ever she could to help bring any planned event to a great success. She had amazing attention to detail which shone through what ever she did.
Her first love was her family and whenever she could she would head to Alberta to see her sons and their families and enjoy quality time visiting and enjoying the western landscape which she greatly admired. Moraine Lake being one of her favorites.
Barb is survived by her sons and daughters-in-laws, Glenn and Marlies (Gerritsen) Martyn and their children, Kevin and Monika Martyn; her stepson, Mark, (Daniela) Downing; her stepdaughter, Michelle (Shannon) Lesch; and stepson, Patrick (Jolean) McAskill, and their children, her brothers Don (Karen) Mann and Terry (France) Mann and their families. She also leaves to mourn many wonderful friends she met through the Seagrave church and community.
A Celebration of Barb’s Life will be held at the Seagrave United Church on Saturday November 4, 2023, with the visitation starting at 10 a.m. and the celebration of life service at 11:00. Afterwards everyone is invited to stay at the church for some reminiscing.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Seagrave United Church, whose good works she supported.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Low & Low Funeral Home, 1763 Reach Street, Port Perry. Friends are invited to send their condolences and share memories at www.lowandlow.ca
